FRSSE 2015 reporting standard

We have included additional warnings and blocks to prevent accidental use of the FRSSE 2015 reporting standard when preparing a set of accounts.

European Union exit regulations: Update to Political Donations wording

The UK left the European Union on 31 January 2020 at 11 pm. It entered a transition period, ending on 31 December 2020 at 11 pm. This marked the Implementation Period (IP) completion date.

There's a terminology change for financial periods starting on or after the IP completion date.

For UK limited companies, we've added a new tick box as follows:

  • Financial period begins before 31 December 2020 (EU Exit date)

Ticking the box in the 'Political Donations' section will change the wording to refer to 'Non-EU'. Otherwise, it will refer to 'Non-UK'.

FRC 2021 Taxonomies update We've updated the FRC 2021 accounts and Detailed Profit & Loss taxonomies. HMRC and Companies House accept these for UK accounts prepared under FRS 102 or FRS 105.
New nominal codes for Covid grants

For UK and ROI, 2 new Coronavirus related nominal codes have been added to the chart of accounts.

UK codes:

  • 8522 Coronavirus job retention scheme (CJRS)
  • 8523 Other coronavirus grants

ROI codes:

  • 8522 Employment wage subsidy scheme (EWSS)
  • 8523 Other coronavirus grants
Addition of ‘Operating Lease’ disclosure For accounts prepared under FRS102 1A — we've added a tick box in the Data tab to show the operating lease disclosure note.

Description

UK Limited companies: New nominal code 7919

New nominal code 7919 Interest on late paid tax (Corporation Tax) has been added to the chart of accounts. This allows you to separate interest on late paid tax from interest on late paid PAYE, VAT & NI, which should be posted to existing nominal code 7921.

Corporation Tax Integration:
Amounts posted to 7919 are allowable expenses, whereas amounts posted to 7921 are disallowable. Figures will be appropriately pre-populated in the corporation tax computation on creation.

Presentation of set of accounts: Remove green colour scheme When you export a set of accounts to PDF or produce an iXBRL file you may notice the document no longer contains any green coloured text. Based on your feedback, all text will now be displayed in black so that the set of accounts remains neutral.
Presentation of set of accounts: Remove shading

A new tick box option has been added to the Data tab > Cover to allow removal of shading from the comparative data in the set of accounts.

Important if required to paper file, for example when submitting amended accounts, as the shading can affect the readability of a printed document.

Improvements to error messaging You may notice some differences in the text and behaviour of the red pop-up errors in the Trial Balance and Journals pages.

Description

Companies House filing: Average Number of Employees update

Companies House will begin to validate for the existence of the average number of employees disclosure in all sets of accounts with periods beginning on or after 1st January 2016, unless the entity is dormant.

The UK limited company and LLP compliance packs have been updated to remind users to populate this note and allow it to be populated in all scenarios, therefore safeguarding against potential rejection of submissions to Companies House.

Changes include:

  • Data tab: New tick box to indicate if employee numbers were nil in both the current and comparative years.
  • Preview: New validation to prevent users filing sets of accounts that do not include the required disclosure and mandatory tag, and hence could be rejected.

The update is applicable for the following entity types available in Sage Final Accounts:

  • UK Small Limited company (FRS 102 Section 1A)
  • UK Micro-entity (FRS 105)
  • UK Micro-entity LLP (FRS 105)

Prepare an ‘empty’ set of accounts

In the rare circumstance that an entity has a completely empty trial balance, we’ve ensured that the Statement of Financial Position (SOFP), including the signature section, will always be included in the set of accounts.

This scenario could be relevant for a dormant company that is limited by guarantee, for example.

If the statements below the SOFP are not present, the accounts are rejected on submission to Companies House, as they do not contain the required content.

The update is applicable for the following entity types available in Sage Final Accounts:

  • UK Small Limited company (FRS 102 Section 1A)
  • UK Micro-entity (FRS 105)

Feature Summary
Compliance Packs

When you create a new set of accounts based on an existing set of accounts AND we’ve updated the compliance pack used in that set of accounts, you’ll see a message: Compliance pack updated.

The Updates window provides information about what has been changed in the compliance pack. You can get to the Updates window when in a set of accounts by: Set of Accounts Options > Updates

Changing client type

Depending on the complexity of the client’s set of accounts, changing to a different client type may take a short time.

If you return to the main summary page for the client, and attempt to open a set of accounts being changed to a new client type, you’ll see a holding page until the change is complete. This won’t take long and is to make sure you don’t inadvertently change anything that might affect the process. Wait a couple of minutes, and try again.

Comparative Trial Balance You can now access the comparative trial balance from the Journals list. From Trial Balance > Journals. From the Journals list, you can click to edit it, or click the delete icon to remove it from the set of accounts.
Sample accounts To demonstrate the kind of output you can expect, we’ve included some sample accounts for you to take a look at. You’ll find sample accounts for each compliance pack.
Updates notification Each time we update the application, you’ll be notified by the new features pop-up in the application. You can close this at any time by clicking the close button.
