Menu Bar
All Windows programs use menu bars. The main headings in Personal Tax should look familiar if you have used other Windows software. Click the select mouse button once on the menu bar or press Alt to access the menus. A menu is a group of logically related commands which you can use to perform various tasks. Once you have clicked on the toolbar or pressed Alt you can select any of the menus by moving the mouse left or right or using the cursor keys. The currently selected menu is highlighted and its contents are displayed in a drop-down list. To choose an item from a menu scroll through the list by moving the mouse up or down or by using the cursor keys. The currently selected item is highlighted - click the select mouse button or press Return to activate the item. The menu bar is located at the top of the Main frame.
Menu shortcut keys
All menus have shortcut keys. They are a single underscored letter in the relevant menu option. The shortcut key in the menu option Tools is the underscored letter T. Press Alt and the shortcut key T at the same time to open that particular menu. Use the cursor keys to move up and down the available menu options when the menu has been opened.
Once a menu has been opened you do not have to press Alt to select one of its options; you just press the relevant underscored letter.
Example
To select File/Open you press Alt + F then O. (You do not need to press Alt + F then Alt + O).
Alternatively you can use the shortcuts for the menu item itself. For example, the shortcut for Open on the File menu is Ctrl+O. This will open the Select Client List directly.
