Grids
Grids appear throughout Personal Tax. You use them to make multiple entries on a single page of a form. They are mainly used for entering financial details.
Single grids
Single grids occur when you do not need to enter information about totals e.g. when you are required to enter individual transactions only. You can see this type of grid in UK Banks or building societies, on the Receipts tab.
Grids that are split into two linked grids
Some grids are split into two interrelating grids. They allow you to enter data about individual transactions which form part of a total amount.
Example
You could enter details about three different assets that have been transferred to an employee by their employer. You enter these individual transactions in the lower grid. Those individual transactions are automatically calculated and the total amounts are displayed in the upper grid.
You can see this type of grid on the Expenses/Adjustments tab within Foreign property income and the Benefits and Expenses tab within Employments.
How to use a linked grid
- In the top grid, highlight the item that you want to enter details about. The cursor will move to the bottom grid.
- Enter transactions relative to the selected item in the bottom grid. Add each transaction on a separate row.
- The totals of all the transactions you enter will appear next to the related item in the top grid.
- To enter transactions against a different area/item, simply select the item in the top grid, then enter the transactions in the bottom grid again.
- The top grid cannot be edited, but will update to show the totals for the transactions that you've entered.
