Datafield Properties

Click here to see the Datafield Properties window

This window opens when you first place a data field element on the report. You can re-open it later by selecting a data field element then clicking the menu mouse button on it. Select Edit Properties from the pop-up menu. The window will display the properties of the data field that you clicked on.

Data Field - Select the type of data that you want this element to contain by selecting an option from the Data Field drop-down list. The data fields that are available depend upon which type of report you are editing.

Alignment - Select an option from the drop-down list to indicate how the data should be aligned:

  • Left
  • Right
  • Centered

If the element is in the Page header or Page footer band, it will be aligned within its band. If the element is in the Column header or Details band, it will be aligned within its frame.

Autostretch height - Tick the box to set the height of the element to exactly fit the height of the text.

Automatic wordwrap - Tick the box if you want the text to wrap to the next line if it does not fit into the width of the element. This is particularly useful for data field elements, as the text of the data will vary on the final report.

Autosize width - Tick the box to set the width of the element to exactly fit the width of the text.

Transparent - Tick the box to make the background of the element transparent, so that any text or graphics behind it will show through.

Font - Select this button to choose the font for the data field using the standard Font window. If you do not choose a font here, the default will be used. This is set in the Report Page Setup window.

Colour - Select this button to choose the background colour of the data field using the standard Color window. You can change the colour of the text using the Font window, which is opened by selecting the Font button.

Don't print repeated values - Tick the box if you do not want to print data fields with the same values repeatedly. The report will only print the data field for the first client with that value, and leave all following instances of this data field empty.

Reprint suppressed data field on new page - If you have ticked Suppress printing of repeated values then you can use this option to reprint a field if a new page starts, even if it would be suppressed normally because of equal values.
