Determining the File Type

You need to identify whether the sample file that you are learning from is Fixed or CSV format.

  1. Open Windows Explorer, open the View menu and select Options....
  2. Make sure that the Display the full MS-DOS path in the title bar tick box is ticked.
  3. Find the file that you are learning from using Windows Explorer (the full path name of the file is shown in the Filename box in the Import Template Editor window) and check its extension.
  4. If the file's extension is .CSV, select the CSV option in the File type options box.
  5. If the file's extension is anything other than .CSV, select the Fixed option in the File type options box. Examples include .TXT, .PRN, .SDF or no extension at all. Fixed-width files are sometimes known as SDF files.
